The first type of chord you should kno wis a Traid. Traid: a chord that has 3 different notes. Traid are built by stacking thirds (alost written as 3). A third is a particular interval beetween two notes. There are 2 kinds of thirds: minor third interval of 3 half notes notation : b3 major thirds interval of 4 hald notes notation: 3 Start constructing your first chord by stacking 2 thirds on the first note (C or 1) of the C major scales. First, count 4 half notes beginning from the first note C. From C to C# to D # to E. Then we count 3 half notes from E. From E to F to F# to G. C E G 1 3 5 This results in a C major scale (or C). C to E makes a major third. E to G makes aminor third. this structure is typical for every major chord can be written in a chord formula. Chord formula for major chords: 1 3 5 The result of a 2 of the C major scale: D F A 1 b3 5 This result in a D minor Traid or Dm. D to F makes a minor third and F to a makes a major third this structure is typical for every minor chord The chord formula for minor chords: 1 b3 5 Im not going to repeat this for every note in the scale because i think you'll understand this by now.

There are 5 more notes: sharps & flats. The symbol for a sharp is: # THe symbol for a flat is : b Sharps are raised by one half of a note. Flats are lowered by one half of a note. Between C & D : C# or Db (C# and Db are the same note) Between D & E : E# or Db (E# and Db are the same note) Between E & F : there is no # or b because they lie a half note apart. Between F & G : F# or Gb (F# and Gb are the same note) Between G & A : G# or Ab (G# and Ab are the same note) Between A & B : A# or Bb ( A# and Bb are the same note) Between B & C : there is no # or b because they lie a half note apart.
